About this place
Though primarily a tea specialist, Tea House Mayoor in Gotanda greets visitors at the door with the warm, appetizing aroma of roasting spices. Shelves lined with tea tins and packets frame the shop, yet many patrons arrive specifically for its proper, flavourful lunch fare.
The daytime centrepiece is the Mayoor Special Indian Curry, a light, soupy preparation built on the gentle sweetness of slow-cooked onions, savoury domestic chicken, and a bespoke blend of spices. The aromatic sauce coats elongated, loose grains of rice effortlessly. Equally sought after is the tandoori chicken paratha sandwich, featuring homemade spiced chicken and crisp vegetables rolled inside paratha, a soft and layered Indian flatbread. Lunch sets include a small salad, dessert, and a drink, with the shop's rich, fragrant milk tea making an especially fitting accompaniment.
Later in the afternoon, the tempo slows over a cake set with apple pie or pumpkin tart, or warm scones served with clotted cream and jam. With an extensive range of packaged leaves on sale throughout the day, the shop serves equally well as a weekday lunch stop or a quiet haven for tea enthusiasts.
